REVIEW
GUIDELINES |
|
- I welcome opinions, thoughtful topics,
but avoid blogs, personal posts, sounding boards, vacuous
graffiti or confrontational style of writing. I prefer critical
essays that demonstrate your knowledge of current MLA standards:
http://www.english.uiuc.edu/CWS/wworkshop/writer_resources/citation_styles/mla/mla.htm
- Cite passages, examples, sources,
endnotes where needed. Comparative literature is more than
welcome, but don't go to extremes and send me dry, arcane,
rhetorical discourse. In other words try to be as creative
with your essays, offer an interesting perspective as the
book you're reviewing.
- If you wish to have the editor review
your own book, query first by sending five to ten poems
from a full-length poetry book or chapbook, or by submitting
a synopsis, or two chapters from a novel as plain text in
the body of your email.
- If I am interested in reviewing your
book, you may send a preflight copy as an attachment in
the following formats: Adobe PDF, HTML, Microsoft Word/Works,
Lotus or Corel WordPerfect, Star Office, or Macintosh ClarisWorks
document. Please don't decorate it with fancy fonts, graphics,
just send the text portion. If you have other formats not
listed here, we can discuss each situation individually.
- Once a review has been accepted,
it will be published in the Book Reviews Section. Books
that have been read and published on the Reviews page may
also be promoted to the Recommended Reading List and vice
versa--books on the Recommended Reading List may be reviewed
in depth.
- Keep in mind, however, Tryst's Contributors
whose work have already appeared in issues of Tryst will
be given preferential treatment in that they will receive
priority over non-contributors since all written work will
be considered for the Pushcart Prize during the nomination
process.
- Once you have read over these guidelines,
you may submit to editor@tryst3.com.
Send a cover letter, brief bio and type in the subject line,
"Book Review: Query."
