Artist's Statement
I was a restaurant owner delving into the culinary arts before discovering
photography and computers a few years ago. Drawing has always been
a hobby of mine.
Having no former education in art, I experimented freely combining
my love for all three mediums. I did not set out to be an artist.
Being an abstract,
non-linear thinker coupled with having the desire to achieve a higher
state of spiritual and self-awareness has paved the way towards
developing my art. As others began to notice my work, I realized
I had created an avenue through which I could communicate on a deeper
level.
The ideas to create the imagery come to me in pieces. Most times,
I do not have a preconceived idea of what I want to create. When
the mood strikes, I sit down in front of the computer to look at
numerous thumbnails of my stock
photography, elements, etc. and allow my mind to pick out images
to be put together with other images that catch my eye.
The necessary color and filters are then applied. I end up with
an image that comes from the depths of my subconscious. Often, the
finished image will reveal to me something that I did not realize
I was thinking or feeling. It is a wonderful, insightful process
to create snapshots of the soul.
As you can see, my art reflects the perception of myself (yes,
I am a Gemini) and those around me. In most images, I find it natural
to incorporate elements in sets of two expressing the dueling natures
within the Gemini. Dark and light are almost always mirrored. The
nude body is used to represent the unclothed, unmasked self. It
symbolizes the vulnerability each of us suffer at that point where
we must examine in honesty who we are in order to reconcile with
oneself, with others and with God. "Even the bravest of us
rarely has the courage for what he really knows." ~ Nietchze.
Some of my influences are James Abbe, Maxfield Parrish, Icart, Mapplethorpe,
Klimt, H.R. Giger, and Salvador Dali. I have tried to focus on more
classical effects in a modern digital medium. Layers of meaning
and symbolism as well as visual layers are present. The colors used
are very specific in their symbolism which is repeated throughout
my work. I feel I have embraced
unconventionality and it has been very well received by others.
