memorial in memoir
In 1969 I may have been sitting in a bar
with a wreath of flowers on my head and swallowing a smooth-liquid
peace. It is the year before that clearly remembers, 1968, when in
Resurrection Cemetery we buried my cousin's only son.
My cousin told me one of
the things she remembered about the day of Kelly's funeral, one of
the things that comforted her most was that I said nothing at all,
but how softly I placed my hand on her shoulder.
